Thematic Coordination Activities
The DGIWG has established several Thematic Coordination Teams to address topics which span across multiple Project Teams and/or Technical Panels. The teams are lead by a Thematic Coordinator, who is normally a subject matter expert in the respective area of coordination. Areas of coordination may include, but are not limited to: imagery and gridded data, metadata and portrayal.
Thematic Coordination Groups are temporal in nature. The existence and need for a Thematic Coordination Group is reviewed annually. If the need has been achieved, or overcome by events, the Thematic Coordination Group will be deactivated until future needs are defined.
The responsibilities of a Thematic Coordination Group are:
- Assesses projects for continuity regarding a particular topical area;
- facilitates program coordination across Project Teams and Technical Panels;
- defines shortfalls and gaps with respect to requirement adjudication;
- prepare road map and define respective program plan;
- interact with liaison organizations (e.g. ISO, OGC) to ensure awareness by those organizations of pending areas of collaboration/coordination.
