Models and Schemas

The information view of geographic data represented in accordance with the DGIWG suite of standards is described as models and schemas. The modelling language used is the Universal Modelling Language (UML). When developing new classes the convention used is to prefix each class with "DGIWG-" to distinguish the class from ISO, IHO or other classes that may be used within the same models.

The models are described using the Rational® Rose modelling tool (Rational software) . Other software tools may also be used. The models also build upon the information objects defined in the ISO TC/211 suite of standards. The ISO TC/211 harmonized model is available at http://www.isotc211.org/hmmg/HTML/root.html.

The DGIWG models and schemas are currently under development and none have been published to date.
